Online Drawing In The 21st Century
General Information:
How have our ideas and practice concerning drawing changed? What is included in drawing? How can we initiate and sustain a daily drawing practice that will contribute to our artwork?
Drawing in the 21st Century is an ongoing class, offering a variety of ways to create a sustainable drawing practice through abstract and/or representational drawing. Drawing classes meet weekly on Zoom to discuss artist interviews, practice drawing skills and look at each student's work in response to assignments or in pursuit of individual ideas. In addition, classes have access to a Drawing Resource Page, tailored for each class topic, which feature a wide range of contemporary drawings, artist interviews, videos and links. The Abstract Drawing Materials Page includes resources for dry, wet and wet/dry drawing materials as well as useful papers and sketchbooks. Both Zoom and Padlet are easy to use and requires no special computer skills. Drawing classes are lively and interactive, encouraging development of interesting directions and ideas in the service of creating a useful drawing practice.
Follow up emails after each class offer ideas and assignment suggestions. Each class is recorded for students who may have to miss a session or would simply like to review. Class size is limited to 12.
Class topics have included 21st Century Drawing, Themes in Contemporary Abstraction, Text and Drawing, Collage and Drawing and Using Water Media.

Drawing In The 21st Century: Fall Session 2
Structures and Interiors
Mondays, November 3 - December 8
10:00am-noon Pacific Daylight Time
Tuition: 420.
limited to 12 students
Zoom drawing class
This is an excellent class for those who want to extablish a drawing practice, experiment with a range of materials and be inspired by current trends in drawing.
Drawing in the 21st Century, Fall session 2, will focus on structures and interiors.
These themes help us look at several abstract elements in drawing: placement--the arrangement of lines, shapes and spaces on the drawing surface, grid structures--a classic way of thinking abstractly, and apertures--window and doors, openings that help us see from one point of view to another. Among the artists we'll look at are Giorgio Morandi, Luc Tuymans, Yayoi Kusama, Georgia O'Keeffee and Angela A'Court.
We'll use a variety of drawing materials—collage and watercolor/acrylic, our trusty art graf, ink, colored pencils, charcoal, crayons, etc. In the interest of scale, some of you might want to work in larger sketchbooks. I have an 18x24” Cason pad of drawing paper and have been using it to spread out and make larger drawings from time to time—fun and challenging.
